 PM Modi visits the USA: Strengthens US-India ties

As known PM Narendra Modi is on a visit to the USA, from 13th February to 14th February 2025. PM Modi visits the White House and heads a lot of discussions with US President Donald Trump. In a recent press meeting, PM Narendra Modi said that he thanked Donald Trump for his warm welcome and hospitality and expressed his gratitude to Donald Trump. He says that over the years, the India-USA relationship has been livelier with Donald Trump’s leadership, the enthusiasm with which Donald Trump has worked together with PM Modi in this first term, he is having the same enthusiasm in this term also. He also said that the India-USA relationship has got livelier and going to more highs and can shape the world towards a better future.

After the meeting between the two leaders, a press conference took place and here are some major points addressed by PM Modi:

Bilateral trade: India and the USA have set a target to reach $500 billion by the year 2030 by doubling their bilateral trade. The Indian administration and the Trump administration are working on an agreement that is going to be signed soon.

Gas-trade: The gas-trade will get new heights under OM Modi and Donald Trump’s partnership.

Nuclear energy: PM Modi discussed that increased assistance of Small Modular Reactors will take place in India.

 

Defence: Defense has been a major issue of concern, PM Modi discussed joint development, joint production and transfer of technology and also a decision to launch the Autonomous Systems Industry Alliance has been taken into consideration. An upcoming decade-defense cooperation framework will be made. Defense Interoperability, logistics, repair and maintenance will be its major interests.

AI, Semiconductors, Quantum and Biotechnology: basically, speaking about the working of the USA and India together in these sectors.

TRUST (Transforming Relationship Using Strategic Technology): consent on TRUST from both nations, Critical minerals, advanced material and stronger pharmaceutical chains will be strengthened. Lithium and other rare earth metals and the strategy for the recovery of those rare earth metals will be initiated.

Space: ISRO and NASA’s joint venture- NISAR satellite is soon to conduct flight from India’s launch vehicle.

INDO-Pacific peace: QUAD will play a major role in this area, in the upcoming QUAD summit in India, PM Modi is going to have coordination with the partner nations.

Terrorism: USA will extradite 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused Tahawwur Rana to India and the future decisions regarding his judgements and punishment are going to be taken by the Indian courts of justice.

During the question-and-answer session with the press, a lot of issues were addressed by PM Modi and President Donald Trump, some major topics among those are- when asked about India being neutral in The Russia-Ukraine war, PM Modi says that he and his nation does not stand neutral- he said that we have a side and we are on the side of peace. Trump also spoke about his interest in speaking to President Putin and also Chinese administration. The money that is been spent to fight against each other can be used in strengthening a country’s own defence.
