 Union Budget 2025: Defence Gets Record ₹6.81 Lakh Crore Boost

From the last few years, Indian has shown significant development in the defence sector with allocating an interesting amount every year. 1st February,2025 the finance minister of India, Nirmala Sitaraman presented the Union budget of the financial year 2025-26. A record over 6.81 lakh crore has been allocated in Union Budget for MoD i.e. an increase of 9.53% from the current financial year.

This has been an important step in the development of the MoD and PM Modi’s vision on Viksit Bharat @ 2047 with technologically advanced and Atmanirbhar Armed Forces of the Indian defence.  After the budget being presented, Shri Rajnath Singh (Defence minister of India) said, “This budget will promote the development of youth, poor, farmers, women and all other sections of society. Recognising the contribution of the middle class, the budget has brought an unprecedented gift”.

The 6,81,210.27-crore allocated for the Ministry of Defence in the Union budget of 2025-26, has got a hype of 9.53% more than the budget estimate of the financial year 2024-25 i.e. 13.45% of the Union Budget, highest among all the Ministries.

The allocated budget is divided into 4 sectors of the Ministry of Defence and all allocated with a specific amount:

  1. 1,80,000-crore i.e. 26.43% of the allocated budget is set aside for Capital Outlay on Defence Services.
  2. 3,11, 732.30-crore i.e. 45.76% is set aside for Revenue head.
  3. 1,60,795-crore i.e. 23.60% is set aside for Defence Pension.
  4. 682.97-crore i.e. 4.21% set aside for Civil Organisation under MoD.

The world is developing every day, the current geopolitical scenario requires India to strengthen its defence sector to its fullest with latest defence equipment including latest technologically advanced fighter jet, anti-air craft radar, missiles and many more. Experts say that the allocated budget for the MoD is still now not sufficient to fulfil the requirements of the MoD at present but, look forward for more allocation in the upcoming years.
