Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font has lauded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “key player in geopolitics” due to his ability to engage effectively with world leaders across various regions. During his state visit to India, Boric acknowledged Modi’s diplomatic reach and influence in global affairs, highlighting his unique position in international politics. Speaking at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Boric emphasized PM Modi’s ability to communicate and negotiate with influential global figures, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and leaders from the European Union and Latin America. “President Modi, you can talk to every global leader—Trump, Zelenskyy, the European Union, or Latin American leaders. No other leader has this reach today, making you a key figure in global geopolitics,” Boric remarked during the event. Boric highlighted PM Modi’s meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow last July and his subsequent visit to Ukraine, where he met with President Zelenskyy. These diplomatic engagements reflect India’s role as a mediator and its commitment to fostering global stability amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions. Boric also praised India’s strong democratic foundations and its dedication to global peace. He acknowledged India’s status as the world’s largest democracy, commending its adherence to democratic principles such as the separation of powers, freedom of expression, and efforts to alleviate poverty and inequality. He noted that India’s ability to maintain democratic integrity while playing a crucial role in international diplomacy sets an example for the world. “India’s democratic institutions are successful, and its commitment to maintaining peace and stability on a global scale is commendable,” Boric added.
The Chilean President expressed his country’s intention to deepen bilateral relations with India. He emphasized that Chile maintains a diversified international presence, engaging with countries across various continents, including China, the United States, the European Union, and multiple nations in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific. “Chile is a country that is connected to the world. We do not depend on any one country, but we have relationships with China, the United States, the European Union, and nations across Latin America and the Asia-Pacific, including Japan, Indonesia, and Australia. Now, we want to deepen our relationship with India, and we have taken some important steps today,” Boric stated. India and Chile have been strengthening their economic ties over the years, with both nations recognizing the mutual benefits of increased trade and investment. Chile is one of India’s key trading partners in Latin America, with significant cooperation in areas such as mining, agriculture, renewable energy, and pharmaceuticals. During Boric’s visit, discussions focused on expanding trade relations and fostering greater cooperation in technology, clean energy, and climate change initiatives. India’s growing economy and Chile’s vast reserves of natural resources provide ample opportunities for collaboration in various sectors.
PM Modi’s ability to engage with multiple world leaders across political spectrums has positioned India as an influential global player. His diplomatic approach, which balances strategic autonomy with active participation in international affairs, has enhanced India’s reputation as a reliable and neutral partner in geopolitical conflicts. India’s presidency of the G20 and its proactive involvement in international organizations further underscore its commitment to shaping global policies. The recognition from Chile’s President adds to the growing acknowledgement of India’s importance in global diplomacy. President Gabriel Boric’s statements reflect India’s rising stature on the world stage. As India continues to expand its diplomatic and economic partnerships, its ability to engage with world leaders and contribute to global stability remains a significant asset. The strengthening of India-Chile relations signals the broader trend of India’s deepening ties with Latin America, showcasing its growing influence in international affairs.
