A US aircraft carrying 112 Indian nationals landed in Amritsar on February 16, 2025, marking the third batch of illegal immigrants deported from the United States to India. This latest deportation brings the total number of Indians sent back to their homeland to over 300, following the first batch on February 5, 2025, and the second batch on February 15, 2025. The 112 deportees, who hail from various Indian states, including 44 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, 31 from Punjab, 2 from Uttar Pradesh, and 1 each from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, were reportedly handcuffed and chained throughout their flight, with many alleging mistreatments.
The deportations are part of a broader effort by the US government to crack down on illegal immigration. According to the US Department of Homeland Security, the deportations are aimed at deterring irregular migration and combating human trafficking. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized India’s

commitment to taking back its nationals who live illegally in the United States. Modi has also stressed the need to dismantle the ecosystem of human trafficking, which often preys on vulnerable individuals from ordinary families.
The Punjab government has made arrangements for the deportees, providing them with food, shelter, and other necessities. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has assured that the deportees will be treated with dignity and respect. The deportations have sparked concerns about the treatment of Indian nationals in the United States and the need for greater cooperation between the two countries to address the issue of illegal immigration.
