INDIA TO REPATRIATIATE ILLEGAL IMMEGRANTS FROM THE US

In 2023-24, the U.S Department of Homeland Security deported over 1,100 countries, Indian nationals back to India. Globally, 495 repatriation flights returned 160,000 individuals to 145 countries including India. Claiming some countries to not consider repatriation flights to return their own illegal migrants.  With the oath taking ceremony, the repatriation process has been taking into consideration.

Trump has been promising the US citizens from a long time to return illegal immigrants back to their own country, the increasing number of illegal immigrants from the last few years has possessed a great threat to US resources, economy and several other factors that are basically creating issues for the US citizen.

The US authority reported 90,415 attempts by Indian nationals to enter The US unlawfully. The unlawful immigration is mostly noticed from the northern borders. Indians now constitute around 3% of all the unlawful crossings, surpassing other Asian groups such as the Filipinos. The increasing urge of the Indian nationals to cross borders through illegal ways raise questions to why is this happening? Are all the immigrants claiming to be Indian citizens are from India?

As noted, delayed Visa and economic constraints in various Indian states are a result of illegal immigration. The poorest state of The US has a per capita income of $48,110 where per capita income of Indian citizens are estimated to be somewhere around $1,161 and the lowest income is being recorded in Bihar with an average per capita income of $708.

In a meeting between S. Jaishankar and Rubio, S. Jaishankar stated that the immigrants with proper Indian documents and a brief background check will be considered for further processes. According to sources, a gross 60% of all the immigrants claiming to be Indian are not Indian by documents. Various illegal immigrants from other countries such as various Bangladeshi are suspected to have fake Indian documents and claim to be Indian nationals.

The cross checking of documents from all the illegal immigrants requires a lot of time to be authenticated. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) called India as “uncooperative” reasoning it to delay in verifying their citizenship.
